About Me

Zuzana Tomasikova was born in 1976 in Martin, Slovakia. Aged 14 she obtained her first degree in piano. Having graduated from the School of Arts in Martin she continued her education at J.L. Bell Conservatoire of Music in Banska Bystrica in opera singing. During her studies she gave several solo performances, e.g. in Stabat Mater in Salle de Molliere in Lyon (France) followed by concerts in Hungary.

She was also engaged in work with Slovak State Opera in Banska Bystrica performing both as a soloist and as a member of the choir. Her first solo debut in an opera took place in 1995, when she performed as a Carroll singer in an opera “Martin and Sun” by Tibor Fresso.  Following her debut she performed in several other solo roles in various operas, e.g. “Bathory” by Ilja Zeljenka as a Apolonia, “La Rondine” by J. Puccini as a florist. As a chorister she performed in “Nabucco’ by G. Verdi. Ultimately she obtained her Master degree in Pedagogy in Singing and Music Theory in 2008 at the Catholic University in Ruzomberok (Slovakia).

Additionally in 1998 and 2000 she took part in Summer School of Ancient Music, held in Valtice in Czech Republic, where she was a student in Poppy Holden’s class covering the repertoire of J. Dowland and A. Vivaldi.

Zuzana gave several concerts across Europe, e.g. in Czech Repulbic, Hungary, Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy, Great Britain and many others. She performed live for the Slovak National Radio. Further in her career she sang both as soloist and with many choirs in Slovakia and abroad.

Currently Zuzana lives in Warrington (United Kingdom) performing as free-lance soprano in the North West. She teaches singing at St. Mary’s Primary School in Sale and also singing and piano as a private tutor.

Since September 2011 she has been a member of the Manchester Chamber Choir actively taking part in various events across the United Kingdom, e.g. at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, PROMS 2012 at Royal Albert Hall, concert with Andrea Bocelli at ECHO Arena in Liverpool, as well as recorded for BBC radio with Pet Shop Boys. Currently she is rehearsing with City of Manchester Opera for G. Verdi’s opera Lady Macbeth.

In February 2014 she will perform with company Opera Seria the role of the second novizie in Puccini´s opera Suor Angelica

Zuzana’s repertoire is really broad starting from the music of the early XVI century,  Cantatas by J.S. Bach, Oratories by G.F. Handel, Stabat Mater by G. Pergolesi , Kronungsmesse by Mozart, via opera arias from Baroque up to contemporary music, e.g. collections of songs by A. Dvorak, R. Schumann, F. Schubert, and reaching up to musicals and popular songs from 1960s and later.
